The Video Interview
Interviewing is hard. Completing a successful video interview is even harder. Here are tips to help you get more value out of your video interview.
It is essential to test your Internet connection and computer equipment before your interview date. There’s always a chance that the WiFi will fail right before your meeting starts. Most smartphones can turn into mobile hotspots if needed. Additionally, have a backup phone number and an email address in case of system failure. Also, be aware, some video-conference systems will have a delay between what each person says. Complete a practice run before your video interview.
During your practice run, double-check, you know your video-conference system password, or you have the correct meeting ID. Don’t waste meeting time troubleshooting-plan for at least five minutes of set-up time.
Some additional questions to ask yourself: How do you look? If you’re interviewing from home, check the background and foreground of the camera? How is the lighting? Are there any loud noises or distractions? Do you have excellent eye contact? How do you sound?
The more you practice, the better your interview will be.
